Say Yes National Higher Education Compact

In joining the Say Yes National Higher Education Compact, private colleges and universities agree to ensure that students from Say Yes communities whose annual family income is at or below $75,000 are typically eligible, at a minimum, to attend tuition-free, provided they are accepted through the institution’s regular admission process.

In January 2019, 14 colleges – including nine more in Ohio – joined the Compact.

Ashland University, Baldwin Wallace University, Case Western Reserve University, College of Wooster, John Carroll University, Notre Dame College, Ohio Northern University, Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Dayton join the initial Ohio members, Denison University, Kenyon College, and Oberlin College. Hiram College joined in February 2019.

Also joining the Say Yes National Compact are three Historically Black Colleges and Universities – Benedict College in Columbia, SC; Morehouse College in Atlanta, and Paul Quinn College in Dallas – as well as Alfred University in New York and Whitman College in Washington state.

Participating Colleges and Universities

All higher educational institutions in the Say Yes National Higher Education Compact must follow the universal requirements to participate. However, each also has more specifics to its offering.

These Say Yes partner colleges offer a limited number of Say Yes Cleveland scholarships (up to the figure in parentheses) per year. Not all students who are admitted to these institutions and who would otherwise meet eligibility criteria are guaranteed a Say Yes Cleveland scholarship:

  • Ashland University (5)
  • Baldwin Wallace University (5)
  • Bryant & Stratton College (5)
  • Hiram College (5)
  • John Carroll University (5)
  • The North Coast College (5)
  • Notre Dame College (S. Euclid, OH) (5)
  • Ohio Wesleyan University (5)
  • University of Dayton (10)
  • Ursuline College (5)

These Say Yes partner colleges and universities place no limits on the number of scholarships (up to the cost of tuition and mandatory fees) available to Say Yes Cleveland scholars who are admitted through the regular admission process, and meet income and other eligibility criteria.

*Colleges with an asterisk will consider parent and/or student assets as well as the income and assets of non-custodial parents (when applicable) to determine eligibility for Say Yes Awards.
