Appeals

How to appeal a denied application.

Say Yes scholarship eligibility requires you to enroll in a CMSD or partner charter school for all of high school, and to live within the CMSD boundaries for all of high school. If your scholarship application was denied but you think you meet both of these requirements, you can file an appeal to have your eligibility reassessed.

What to Do After Your Appeal Letter Arrives

After your appeal has been reviewed by The Cleveland Scholarship Committee, you will receive a letter from Say Yes Cleveland saying your appeal has been “approved”, “denied”, or is under “consideration”. Here is what to do after you receive your letter.

Approved
Immediately follow up with your College Now Advisor and your high school counselor to begin applying to the school of your choice and to begin filling out the FAFSA.

Denial
If your appeal has been “denied”, Say Yes Cleveland will work with our partner organizations to locate additional scholarship options for you. Even though your appeal has been denied, that does not mean the end of your process. You can still receive help from your College Now Advisor to apply for additional scholarships to help reduce the total cost of attendance at a future college, university, or trade school.

Consideration
If your appeal is “under consideration”, your College Now Advisor will call the student’s parent/guardian for a follow-up (documents needed, etc.).
